The sculpture is placed in a canopy on the church façade, facing Hertig Johans Gata, and Skövde’s patron saint S:t Elin (or Helena as she also is called) and her martyrdom is the motive. According to the legend, Elin of Skövde was murdered on her way to Götene. A blind man found her finger on the murder scene, and when he stroke it over his eyes he could suddenly see. Saint Helena church is said to be built on the site of her grave. Astri Bergman Taube has produced Elin with her attributes; the sword and the decapitated finger. The sculpture was payed for by Skövde Parish.
