Info

A city is under constant development, and each period leaves its marks. People's ideas and assumptions reflected in our built environment. Today Skövde is a mosaic of buildings and environments from different periods. Everything from the cabin with roots in the 1700s to the 1960s Civic Hall. We wish you welcome to experience a selection of the historically valuable buildings in the center of Skövde.

Sektor Samhällsbyggnad.

11. Rosa huset

In 1862 this site was the most northeast plot in the 1760’s development plan. The landowner Per August Beckman let erect the large timbered residential house in 1862. The facades were, as we still can see today, simply decorated in the late empire style, with slightly marked corner chains, profiled window coverages and an elegantly designed cornice. Out of the few buildings that still remain from the expansive time after the railway opening in 1859, Tor 2 is particularly interesting. In the building history of Skövde, this house is a bridge between the older and simpler wooden buildings, and the “new age” more pretentious stone urban areas. Tor 2 is also the only building from that period that completely escaped thorough renovations, and still has many architectural features from the 1800’s left.
