Info

A city is under constant development, and each period leaves its marks. People's ideas and assumptions reflected in our built environment. Today Skövde is a mosaic of buildings and environments from different periods. Everything from the cabin with roots in the 1700s to the 1960s Civic Hall. We wish you welcome to experience a selection of the historically valuable buildings in the center of Skövde.

Sektor Samhällsbyggnad.

5. Kanslihuset

This building was called the first City hall in Skövde, since it was built only to contain facilities for civic management. On the bottom floor you could find the building committees, and on the top floor you found the City Council Hall. The building was constructed in 1915-16 after drawings by architect Per-Olof Hallman. Hallman was hired on several occasions for urban development work, but this was the only building he designed in Skövde. Hallman adapted the City Hall to the two adjacent older buildings, which lead to the somewhat strange looking eaves. The medieval inspired 1850’s architecture was here integrated in the national romantic architecture from 1910, with details such as handmade bricks in design patterns, stepped gables, stone portal, oak gates and copper bay windows. The city hall/Kanslihuset is one of Skövdes most tangible examples of national romantic architecture.
