This courtyard is the only site in the inner city where a garden has been preserved. In the past it was common that a small part of the plot was allocated to be a garden. The property is still “a full yard” from the city plan of 1760, and in terms of size unaltered since then. Snickaren 1 is now the inner city’s best preserved court yard setting, with the old wooden town character from the 1850’s-1900. In 1851-1852 Sophie Hvalström had the yellow building built. It still has all of its characteristic features from a typical residential house from the 1800’s. The east wing is partially from the same time as the main building, but has gradually been extended during the 19th century.
