11. Sfärisk skulptur, 1973 by ROLF E WILHELMSSON

The ”Spherical sculpture” stands on the hill next to Västerhöjdsgymnasiet (the upper secondary school). The origin of “Klotet” (The Sphere), as it’s called in popular speech, is a gas container that was used until the 1960’s at the 2. treatment plant in Skövde. As early as in 1966 the discussions about preserving and artistically form the gas container started, and when Rolf E Wilhelmsson had an exhibition in Skövde Art hall in 1972, this clever idea was born. For the artist a sphere is both burden and lust, and his work revolves around the perfect and dynamic form that the sphere has. From this sphere, that is 5 meters in diameter, a section was cut out and was placed in an angle from the bigger body. The cut surfaces were painted in different shades of green, and together with the rest of the sphere being white, the sculpture melts together with the environment both in the green summer and the white winter.
