Cavallobrunnen (The Cavallo well) was created when the railway station was turned into a travel center. Primarily it is the sphere that is related to travel, but also the horse (cavallo in Italian) symbolizes travelling – mostly because the locomotives used to be called iron horses. Linnés giant shell Strombus Gigas symbolizes both travel and return. Its whistle sings like the rail: travel to where you’re longing! And who has not brought a seashell with them home from the beach holiday?
The inauguration of the sculpture took place on June 6, 1996. In January the same year the ideas for the fountain sculpture was presented under Lindblom’s big art show in Skövde Art hall. He is one of Sweden’s most prominent artists that make art in the city’s open spaces, and these sculptures with a universal symbolism reflect his vision to unite the classical heritage with our time. For example, the horse head is a copy made after the mythological Greek sculptures, and the three identical volumes stacked on each other can be seen as a modern architectural form. The water mirror, which is located above the bronze rim, the pride of the artist?
